The Maryland Association of Youth Service Bureaus presents the Cornerstone Award to individuals who have demonstrated efforts to improve the lives of the youth and families in Maryland. In particular, individuals who believe in the importance of intervening early with youth to prevent further problems in their lives. Secretary Abed has demonstrated a great dedication to the youth under his care by implementing a developmental model of juvenile justice. In addition, he established a Family Engagement Program that works to keep families engaged and informed about the legal process and recognizes the importance of families in the lives of youth.
